The Yak has been domesticated in China and Tibet for thousands of years. They have been crossbred with domestic cattle for alteast 3,000 years. We currently have crossbred the Belted Galloway Cattle with our yak bull, Rudy. The crossbred males are called dzo and are sterile. They are used for meat and as beast of burden. The meat is very lean and a little sweeter in taste than regular beef. The crossbred females are called dzomo. The hybrid is more docile than the yak and produces more milk and meat.
